STOIK MorphMan Tutorial

To learn how to use this powerful program, you can start with the Help>Tutorial in the software. Go through the Simple Distort and Simple Morph tutorials in the Morphman help menu, more if you have time.

To start creating a morph you need 2 jpg graphics at the same pixel dimensions. (source and target images). Sample graphics can be downloaded at this link. Choose a matching pair for your morph.
To start a new project go to step 1 below. To open an existing project go to File>Open. The Open command opens mpj files.

1. Go to File>Source>Image and find your start jpg image. Go to File>Target>Image and find your end jpg image.

2. Four windows should be open on screen: Source, Target, Preview, and Project. Add points and lines to the Source and Target window. The accuracy and placement of points and lines will determine how good your morph movie turns out. This doesn't necessarily mean that more is better. Sometimes points are used to stop area changes as well as typically used to control area changes.

3. You can save your Morph project any time (File>Save). The saved file is an mpj file type. The proprietary mpj file is not the end product (a movie) but this is what makes your end product.
The production flow goes like this: source jpgs  to  morphman project (mpj)  to  final output movie (avi)

4. To change the movie duration go to Edit>Output Options and change the total number of frames. Morphman defaults at 15fps. Using the Output Options and Save Options in this window you can change the frame rate and movie duration. There are buttons for nearly every menu command used in this tutorial - more efficient once you can identify them.

5. To make the movie (also called rendering) go to File>Create>Movie. Be sure to define all movie specifications and never render the movie to a removable disk. Always render movies to the largest fastest drive you have available. You can move the finished movie to your removable disk after it has been created.

6. If making a complete morph into something and morph back, set up the first morph, save the mpj file then go to Markers>More>Swap. This swaps the source and target images with all the markers intact. Save this as a second mpj file.

7. To render multiple morphs into one movie save each one as a morph project and go to File>Render. This allows you to select morph files (mpj), and line up multiple morphs, then it renders them all as one movie. There is also a Help>Tutorial on this.
